Mika.

'i'm a wind up toy in an up-down world'

Wild, spontaneous, unpredictable, mysterious, possible fence hopper, multi-racial could it get any better? Furthermore, he has slight OCD, is innovative and sings with a high falsetto. Many may be thinking Michael Jackson at this point, however, the similarities end there. Mika's style is completely his own and makes me think of bubblegum. An abstract fusion of pink, blue, orange, clashing colours that brighten up the growing world of Mika-ness. Shallow it may seem, but his lyrics have hidden depth. They are the perfect way to convey deep messages in a light hearted manner. In Big Girls You Are Beautiful he disagrees with the media promoted general consensus that one must be skinny to be pretty. Blame It On The Girls addresses the issue of those privileged humans, wallowing in self pity over incessant petty issues when others out there are lacking so much more. Grace Kelly, a bubbly yet mocking song taunting the musical industry about their attempts to mold him into what 'they wanted him to be.'
Within the lines, 'I could be brown, I could be blue, I could be violet sky. I could be hurtful, I could be purple, I could be anything you like!' he appears to be light hearted, though really, beneath those seemingly nonsensical shallow words, he's taunting those he tried to force him away from being true to himself.

Should I bend over, should I look older, just to be put on your shelf? An evident example of his euphemistic attack on the stereotypical music industry.

However, though most of his songs do have hidden meanings, stemmed from a part of his subconscious, addressing issues that are on his mind, some are purely light hearted - nothing wrong with that though, is there? One does not need to be depressed to be classified as deep, and light-heartedness is not synonymous with being shallow.

Below is my current favourite Mika song; Toy Boy. The melody and words are definitely ones to be stuck in your head. :)
